Kishida Mel is the artistic mastermind behind the original character design for the Blue Reflection franchise. Designing all your favorite characters from the first game, Ray, Tie, and Sun.

Involvement[]

Mel was heavily involved in the first game beyond beautiful illustrations, he was there from the beginning of the development process which included the scenarios, gameplay mechanics, music and more. His vision for beautiful magical girls was brought to life for us all to enjoy.

“With the first Blue Reflection we weren’t trying to be blatantly sexy, we just wanted the girls to show a little more character, like you’d take a second glance and your heart would flutter when you saw them.” - Kishida Mel

For Tie/Second Light, Mel was not critically involved having taken a step back, focusing on supervising character design. Even with less involvement overall, his influence is still evident throughout the game.

Mel's involvement with Ray was less noticeable, only being credited for "Original Character Design". Whilst Ray still had the focus around the "High School Magical Girl" theme, the classic Kishida fanservice themes were noticeably absent.

Sun is nearly upon us with its official release coming in the next few months. It has been stated that Mel is in charge of Character Design and Creative Supervision.[1]

Related Works[]

Other notable Gust works that Mel has designed for include Atelier Rorona, Atelier Totori, Atelier Meruru and Atelier Lulua.

Trivia[]

  • In 2015, a Twitter user claiming to be his younger sister circulated a claim that Kishida had been killed in a terrorist attack while in Syria. Kishida took to Twitter to refute the claim.
